TO MOVE A PRODUCT MANAGER TO TARTU
Our client is a small cryptocurrency startup in Estonia. They came to us with a task: to find a Product Manager to join their team in the head office in Tartu.
We quickly found a suitable specialist. Although, he was from Saint Petersburg, and our next step was to relocate him to the nice city of Tartu. Right at the very moment when the coronavirus pandemic had just started.
HOLD THE BORDER!
It’s not hard to move to Estonia once you have an offer. At first, all the questions we dealt with were common and simple: where to find accommodation, how can he relocate his girlfriend too, where to find cheaper medical insurance. All those questions were solved: it’s not our first time relocating a person. But the pandemic had its own plans.
The candidate decided to take a week-long vacation in Saint Petersburg before starting a new job. During this exact week, the borders closed: one couldn’t get to Estonia even with a 14-days quarantine. And the company demanded the employee right now.
Then we offered a solution: while the borders are closed shut, we provide the specialist with a room in our office and minimal vital technical equipment. The specialist would be joining the company in time, and by the moment the borders open, he would be ready to dive into work.
REMOTE WORK IS THE NEW BLACK
This option satisfied both sides. The specialist went through the basic onboarding and stayed in Saint Petersburg a little longer than he expected. But at least the company got its Product Manager.
The pandemic caught many by surprise, forcing them to come up with new approaches to emerging problems, both new and old ones. And in this we surely succeeded!
